Behind the Pawprints: Exclusive Open House Sunday 2nd February.
CLIENTS! We’ve got some exciting news! You’re invited to our Exclusive Open House Event – Sunday 2nd February between 11am
With Halloween and Bonfire Night on the horizon, it’s a time of year full of fun for us—but it can be a little stressful for our dogs. Costumes, decorations, unexpected visitors, and loud fireworks can make even the calmest of pups feel uneasy. This is where enrichment activities can really help, providing natural ways to channel their energy and ease anxiety. Through mental, social, and sensory stimulation, enrichment offers your dog engaging activities that relax, distract, and bring them joy—helping them to manage stress and stay calm even amidst the seasonal excitement. Here are our top tips to keep your dog feeling happy and secure this season!
Did you know there are countless ways to mentally engage your dog? While we’re often reminded to exercise and play with our dogs, mental enrichment is just as important but often overlooked. Providing your dog with fun, engaging activities benefits them in many ways—allowing them to exercise natural behaviors like chewing, digging, herding, and chasing in safe, controlled ways that enrich their lives.
Enrichment isn’t just about keeping your dog busy; it’s about activating their senses, focusing their energy, and bringing you closer together. And here’s the good news: these exercises don’t need to be time-consuming! Just 10-20 minutes a day can make a world of difference, promoting relaxation and building a stronger bond with you.
Mental Stimulation:
Brain games and puzzles are perfect for keeping your dog mentally active, especially for elderly dogs or those with anxiety. These activities help improve cognitive function, focus their energy, and reduce overstimulation.
Social Enrichment:
Social interactions, like playing with other dogs or visiting dog-friendly cafes and parks, teach social skills and help alleviate anxiety. Regular supervised socialisation prevents unwanted behaviours and provides exercise, too! Our hotel guests are always taking deep relaxed snoozes after a day full of social play.
Physical Enrichment:
We’re all familiar with “walkies!” Physical exercise keeps your dog fit, healthy, and mentally stimulated. You can take it up a notch with activities like agility or recall games during your walks, making it even more rewarding for your pup.
Sensory Stimulation:
Sensory enrichment targets your dog’s senses, like sniffing, hearing, or sight. Activities such as snuffle mats and treat-hiding games engage their sense of smell, while recall training with a whistle tunes into their hearing. Sensory experiences are exciting, help reduce anxiety, and build adaptability to new environments.
Food Enrichment:
Who doesn’t love a food game? Feeding your dog with interactive feeders or slow bowls makes mealtime fun, slows them down, and can prevent issues like bloat or speed eating sickness. Using part of their daily meal in these activities keeps them healthy and prevents overfeeding.
Every dog is unique with different preferences, so feel free to try different enrichment activities until you find what they love best! We’re always here to help guide you and we have developed a helpful enrichment questionnaire to find the ideal activities for your dog’s individual needs.
Enrichment is a wonderful way to keep your dog healthy, engaged, and closer to you, so why not make it a part of their daily life?
